Pope Francis's recent Motu Proprio, Traditionis Custodes, has been seen as many things.  Certainly it has been seen as a major and sad setback for traditional Catholicism and the celebration of the Old Mass.  How is it playing out in Australia?  Will the Bishops play ball?  Republished from The Remnant.

Louise Milligan, we know, is a slayer of Catholic Cardinals.  Or seeks to be.  She is also a conspiracy theorist.  An even-handed investigative journalist, she ain't.  The rabbit holes she chooses to go down are highly selective.

The Gutter Press

Not all those Catholic priests accused of historical sexual misconduct have the good fortune to have their reputations restored through the Australian legal system, as Cardinal Pell, mercifully and eventually, did.  The case of Fr John Fleming has yet to be resolved in his favour, but the fight goes on.  As does the disgraceful abuse of this good and holy priest, by those who originally nailed him to his cross.

The Persecution of George Pell

The editor of Quadrant magazine, Keith Windschuttle, as written a cracker of a book on the George Pell case.  It is much needed, in order to provide some balance in the face of the various tirades previously published by sworn enemies of Cardinal Pell's.  It should be read both by those who already know the case well, and by those who do not.

Coronavirus and Holy Communion

The Vatican’s 2004 Instruction Redemptionis Sacramentum stated that “the faithful always have the right to receive Holy Communion on the tongue” (n.92) and that it was never licit to deny Holy Communion to anyone who has no impediment to receiving (n.91). This directive was reiterated in 2009, when the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments issued another clear statement on the reception of the Holy Eucharist.

There are many parallels between the story of Our Lady’s appearance at Guadalupe and the work of those committed to ending abortion. From the rescuing of innocents from the fate of human sacrifice to a lesson on the mysterious actions of God working among us, Guadalupe never ceases to be a source of inspiration and comfort to pro-life Catholics.

The Australian Church has undertaken a radical and dangerous approach to charting her future, in the form of Plenary 2020, which was instigated by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference in 2018.

For Catholics, the historic cathedral's most valuable item is not a golden artefact or a prized antique; even Jesus' venerable Crown of Thorns pales into insignificance when compared to this true treasure.

The Spirit of Activism

This article is based on a talk I recently gave to a group of Catholic students in Melbourne. Readers will note that, while pro-life apologetics is important, our spiritual basis must first be very firm before we engage in any form of activism. We must be very certain that God wants us to serve Him in pro-life activism and also be sure of the guiding principles we need to use in this work.

A Catholic Response to the Marriage Debate

While Dave Pellowe has written a very useful article intended to equip Protestant pastors, I thought I'd put together some resources specifically for Catholics or for those who want to understand the Church's stance on marriage. There has been a great deal of misinformation in Catholic circles regarding the marriage debate: while the Church's teaching is very clear, there are those who are content to deviate from this teaching and promote their own views - views which may in some circumstances be classified as formal heresy. [See Edward Peter's article linked below.] One example of this is a statement from Jesuit lecturer Fr. Frank Brennan, which suggests that it is appropriate for Catholics to support the  redefinition of marriage and that it may even be 'good for society.' [Click here to read his views.]
