We all now that domestic violence is an abhorrent reality in many human relationships and we do all we can to stop it, including passing laws to punish those who commit it. When a man hits a woman, we decry the injustice of someone with more strength using that strength to hurt someone weaker than them. We pull together to reach out to the victims and offer support and a way out. As a society, we offer hope to those in an often hopeless situation. Yet when someone with much greater strength uses that strength to hurt a prenatal child, many members of that same society do nothing to help the victim.
Domestic violence is defined as the inflicting of physical injury by one family or household member on another. Aborting a member of one’s family inflicts the greatest physical injury imaginable on the victim, an injury so severe that it’s very intention is to cause their death. Yet millions turn away and offer no support, no help and no hope to the abused. Is this the act of a just and caring society or the act of a people willing to kill their own young without remorse?
The answer to that question is clear. In fact, we have gone so far as to legalize the killing of our sons and daughters in the womb, stripping them of their personhood and their human rights. Is this the kind of people we really want to be? Is this how we really want to be defined by those future generations who survive the onslaught of this brutality?
Help end domestic violence, no matter where the victim happens to live.
